Our evangelical affiliations and connections

NLC Whitehaven is affiliated to FIEC (The Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches). Its mission is to see Independent churches working together with a big vision: to reach Britain for Christ.
Church on the Moor is a new church (planted in 2022) in nearby Cleator Moor. NLC is closely associated with it.
Cornerstone Books is the last Christian Bookshop in Cumbria. It is situated in Church Street, in Whitehaven—a short walk from NLC.
You can order online (most books have significant reductions): www.cornerstonebooks.uk

CAP trains individuals in local churches to get alongside people in debt. And this help is second to none: many people in West Cumbria have become debt-free through CAP Whitehaven.
If you are in debt, why not explore the CAP website, take courage, and get in touch?
Christians Against Poverty, Whitehaven, is run through a number of local churches, including New Life Church.

The Evangelical Alliance is made up of hundreds of organisations, thousands of churches and tens of thousands of individuals, joined together for the sake of the gospel.
Representing its members since 1846, the Evangelical Alliance is the oldest and largest evangelical unity movement in the UK.

The Christian 'convention' at Keswick has been running for 150 years. It has been, and continues to be, a great encouragement to West Cumbrian Christians.
Throughout the year Keswick Ministries offers Biblical teaching in workshops and events. Its highlight, of course, is the three weeks of the convention itself each summer.

History with New Life Church
L joined our church family in the 1980s, when she taught in a local primary school. She was part of the worship group and also served with a local church planting ministry.
After Bible College training, she served as a mobilizer and trainer in Scotland and Europe, before moving to Asia where she and her husband have served for more than 2 decades.
In recent years, they have shared their ministry between Asia/International and UK, so that they can support her elderly father, who is now the grand old age of 100!
As a church we have been partnering with this family and their ministry since 1990.

Our History
New Life Church commenced like many across the nation as a small group of people who, following the Pentecostal revival of the early 20th century, found it difficult to remain within the structures of the mainline denominations. In 1920 two families living at Kells, in Whitehaven (the Smiths and the McAllisters) started home meetings in their houses to which others were invited.
Prayer and Bible Study brought an emphasis on the experience of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and attendant doctrines that were later . . .
